Verso l’innesto del postmoderno. Villini ed edifici d’abitazione di Mario Marchi e Camillo Palmerini negli anni venti e trenta del novecento

The paper aims to study the work of Camillo Palmerini and Mario Marchi, interpreters and makers of Roman neo-baroque koinè, suggested by Ojetti to represent a thorny issue of unitary style through the language of tradition. Emphasis will be placed, through numerous examples and parallels, on the residential production of contemporary authors to deepen creative processes dense of eclectic figuration with a large use of tòpoi inspired by the numerous excavation campaigns, especially on the ancient coastal settlements of Ostia tiberina and Portus. The accent will be placed also on the projects close to the new excavations’ areas and on the skills of authors around ICP body and in close contact with local bourgeois clients. The paper will study how these compositional processes can be seen in advance postmodern production of contents that move away from the new dominant modernist narrative.
