Jihadist terrorism in its various expressions remains today the greatest threat to the European Union. In Europe, the Balkan area represents a sensitive territory for the proliferation of jihadist terrorist forces. This article aims on one hand at understanding how terrorism in the Balkan region constitutes a danger for Italian national interests and what initiatives Italy has implemented to counter it, particularly at the level of international peacekeeping missions, and, on the other, at analysing some case studies that describe the typical features of radicalization in the Balkans and its consequence for Italian and European security.

Abstract
Jihadist terrorism in its various expressions remains today the greatest threat to the European Union. In Europe, the Balkan area represents a sensitive territory for the proliferation of jihadist terrorist forces. This article aims on one hand at understanding how terrorism in the Balkan region constitutes a danger for Italian national interests and what initiatives Italy has implemented to counter it, particularly at the level of international peacekeeping missions, and, on the other, at analysing some case studies that describe the typical features of radicalization in the Balkans and its consequence for Italian and European security.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
