This essay deals with the theme of the impossible in two Antonio Conti’s cosmological works (the Globo di Venere and the Dialoghi filosofici) and reflects on their complex interaction with Newton’s and Leibniz’s theories. The article will start exploring Conti’s idea of poetry as a synthesis of literature and science, 'mythos' and 'logos'; then, it will analyse the very different use of 'adynata', 'mirabilia' and 'impossibilia' in the two works, discussing them in connection with Conti’s drafting of his uncompleted "Encyclopedia".
