This essay analyzes love as sociality in the history of the social sciences, highlighting its public dimension. While the first part is dedicated to the classics of sociology, the second part focuses on the thoughts of contemporary scholars and closes with a critical proposal based on overabounding and the priority of the benefit of others. The paper shows how love is a karstic water rivulet that for decades has gone through sociological reflection, sometimes flowing underground, but often on the surface as a fundamental element in public social life.

Abstract

This essay analyzes love as sociality in the history of the social sciences, highlighting its public dimension. While the first part is dedicated to the classics of sociology, the second part focuses on the thoughts of contemporary scholars and closes with a critical proposal based on overabounding and the priority of the benefit of others.
