Mons. Ugo Poletti direttore nazionale delle Pontificie Opere Missionarie (1964-1967)

The contribution examines a particular phase in the life of one of the most relevant cardinals of the second part of the 20th century, later Vicar of Rome and President of the Italian Bishops' Conference (CEI). From 1964 to 1967 Msgr. Ugo Poletti was national director of the Pontifical Missionary Works, with the task of guiding the organization to the understanding of the Council and its assimilation. He was committed to coordinating and developing all Italian missionary activities. What emerges from the research is his willingness to draw, even from his particular position, the national community of the faithful out of a narrow, asphyxiated, customary dimension, recalling to universal horizons that the Second Vatican Council had indicated.
