For road tunnels. the design criteria of the power systems, based on the partition in modules and zoning, must ensure the service continuity and safeguard the “critical state for the safety of human life” in the event of a fire. This paper deals with the various problems that jet fans operation presents such as the high inrush and re-inrush currents in direct starting, the admissible transient voltage drops. Then, it highlights measures to make more effective the fire mitigation of the emergency ventilation by reducing the fans activation time. In the end the paper presents two type of models of electrical transformer substations for road tunnels managed with single and double main power supplies in each transformer substation.
