In this paper we present three results of our research activity on the scattering of electromagnetic waves by elliptic cross-section cylindrical structures based on the spectral domain method. In the first part we present an analytical and numerical solution to the electromagnetic problem relevant to the diffraction of a plane wave by an elliptic cross-section cylinder close to a plane interface between two different propagating media. In the second part we propose a new algorithm for the Apollonian packing of circles within an ellipse, based on fundamental numerical methods. The algorithm has been developed to simulate electromagnetic scattering by elliptic cross-section cylindrical dielectric structures, assembled as a juxtaposition of circular cylindrical scatterers.
