Borgate romane fasciste: fondazione e temi di risanamento. Il caso della Borgata Tufello

In the decade between 1930 and 1940, together with the interventions for the transformation of the ‘eternal city’ in the Greater Rome, the Institute for Public Housing built suburbs known as ‘Roman fascist borgate’. Of the twelve built on the outskirts of an expanding city, the one here presented is a reflection on its roots in the territory is the Borgata Tufello. It became part of an urban and social system in which to reread the legacy of the Modern, as proficient of further future developments. It is located in the North East quadrant of Rome, in a green suburb at the boundaries of the countryside. The essay, in addition to taking into consideration the inherited problems, evaluates the potentials, the transformations taking place once and nowadays and the challenge on a kind of historical-cultural continuity through this minor modern architecture.

Nel decennio tra il 1930 e il 1940, insieme agli interventi per la trasformazione della ‘città eterna’ nella Grande Roma, l’Istituto Case Popolari realizzò sobborghi noti come ‘borgate romane fasciste’. Delle dodici costruite ai margini di una città in espansione, quella di cui qui si presenta una riflessione in merito al suo radicarsi sul territorio e diventare parte di un sistema urbano e sociale nel quale rileggere l’eredità del Moderno, capace di ulteriori futuri sviluppi, è la Borgata Tufello, posta nel quadrante nord-est, in una periferia verde al confine con la campagna. Il saggio, oltre a prendere in considerazione le problematiche ereditate, valuta le potenzialità, le trasformazioni in atto e le scommesse su una forma di continuità storico-culturale di questa architettura moderna minore.
