Herodotus offers a systematic reflection on kingship and personal power, paying special attention to the Persian empire but considering it in light of the Greek political debate contemporary to him. This contribution focuses on Herodotus’ presentation of Deioces, introduced as the creator of the monarchy in Asia, and on the relationship of this narrative to the theory formulated in the so-called Anonymous of Iamblichus.
Erodoto offre una riflessione sistematica sulla regalità e le forme di potere personale, prestando particolare attenzione all’impero persiano e considerandolo alla luce di temi centrali del dibattito politico greco a lui contemporaneo. Questo contributo si concentra sulla narrazione erodotea relativa al sovrano medo Deioce, presentato come l’inventore della monarchia in Asia, nonché sul rapporto tra questa narrazione e la teoria sulla genesi della monarchia formulata nel cosiddetto Anonimo di Giamblico.
