Abstract
In the early twentieth century, the shift from eclectism to more modernist ideas found an ideal cultural context in Italy, and in Rome particularly. Among the actors that contributed to defining Rome in this period, public intervention was certainly not secondary; through relevant institutions, it was activated to deal with the increasingly pressing need of housing. One of the many institutions was the Istituto Case Popolari (Social Housing Institute of Rome, ICP), which perhaps represented the 'cross-cutting' institution in terms of both project area and style. Because it often relied on architects outside the structure for project design, this entity had internal technical office consisting of so-called designers. This paper investigates the role and output of these particular professionals, who, for as little as they are known, created the graphical communication foe almost all the buildings designed and built by the ICP.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
