Provvidenza provvisoria. Chiese temporanee per contesti post emergenza

The transitional city set up in the post-emergency period must respond immediately to the needs of individuals personally affected by the catastrophic event. The design of a temporary sacred place is one of the issues that makes it possible to establish certain hierarchical relationships between the parties; to create a meaningful collective place for the community; to find practical solutions to contingent problems such as celebrating funerals, baptisms and weddings; to create a hotspot that intercepts the missionary vocation of religious institutions. This contribution is the result of research carried out as part of the Master’s degree course in the Design of Buildings for Worship within the Dipartimento di Architettura e Progetto of the Sapienza University of Rome, where various design approaches to the theme were identified - ordered according to different types of temporariness: constructive, of use, of position - that allowed the design of a number of prototypes of flexible, adaptable, dismountable temporary churches.
