A 'carpet' of stairs in the private residence by zU-studio architecture in Amsterdam articulates and defines the living spaces. The first connecting track, completely blind and capable of accommodating a person in its width, leads from the street to the entrance of the residence. On this first level, the spaces of the private residence - the three sleeping rooms - are relocated. A second register of stairs, this time short and wide, in material dialogue with the previous stairs, identifies two variations of ascent with single and double steps: the staircase, as an openair theatrical staircase, or as a sloping walkway, rebels against the usual practice of climbing, proposing new uses even of permanence. The third piece of stairs with steel profiles with double development, integrates a black backdrop into the development of the staircase to close the climb, and continuing as a handrail along the perimeter of the cable that delimits the void of the climb. The steel interferences (first stairs, then backdrop-bookcase and finally handrail) declare the beginning of other "public" conditions with the spaces of the day: a work or necessity table, a kitchen, a sofa of variable composition modules. zU-studio architecture's experiment, through a single ascending (or descending) element declined in three variations, opens up the house to uses that are also in contrast with each other, domesticating simultaneous events possible in the space of a step, which, like an infinite and continuous carpet, unfolds from outside to inside the house.

Abstract
The steel interferences (first stairs, then backdrop-bookcase and finally handrail) declare the beginning of other "public" conditions with the spaces of the day: a work or necessity table, a kitchen, a sofa of variable composition modules. zU-studio architecture's experiment, through a single ascending (or descending) element declined in three variations, opens up the house to uses that are also in contrast with each other, domesticating simultaneous events possible in the space of a step, which, like an infinite and continuous carpet, unfolds from outside to inside the house.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
