Abstract

In the two novels Mahagony (1987) and Texaco (1990), Édouard Glissant and Patrick Chamoiseau characterize their transcultural identity trough the relationship between authorship and writing. After a methodological introduction, we will study the paratexts as the space of an identity quest. Here the Antillean writer can speak by distinguish himself from the French editor. He deconstructs western historiography by including the Martinican subject into a new “troubled chronology”. In our third chapter we will analyze the process of identity rhizomatization of the writer into his doubles: the “Marqueur de Paroles” (Speech Marker) and Marie-Sophie Laborieux in Texaco, Mathieu Béluse et “celui qui commente” (the one who comments) in Mahagony
