The value of a place from a health point of view is not easy to explain. Indeed, urban places are generally made up of buildings, streets, spaces and landscapes, and the people who inhabit them and can therefore be defined as socio-physical constructs. In order to explain the value of a place from a health point of view, Carmona (2019) uses the term positional value, defined as «a measure of the value of something» related to social, economic and environmental points of view as well. In particular, in England, the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment identifies six different types of values which include: the exchange value of parts of the built environment; the value in use relating to the activities that take place there; the image value, which concerns the identity of the built environment projects; the social value and how much the built environment supports or is a threat to social relations; the environmental value and its resources; and the cultural value of the built environment. Starting from these premises, the aims of this study, carried out by the research project PRIN2020 Sustainable modelling of materials, structures and urban spaces including economic-legal implications (ISMed-CNR research Unit, with the author’s responsibility), are to illustrate the value of place with respect to the concepts of urban health and liveability, and the Newcastle-Gateshead emblematic case study. The case study will be showed with attention to the general plan, the new Quayside area details, and the public space project related to well-being, inclusion, accessibility, and economic growth. The main aspects of the case – also related to general topic of the study – will complete the paper.

Abstract
The main aspects of the case – also related to general topic of the study – will complete the paper.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
