Polish Studies in Italy and Italian Studies in Poland: close encounters (at times) The article examines the tradition of Polish Studies in Italy and Italian Studies in Poland within the diachronic system of teaching at the University level. It points out several historical differences in the evolution of these academic disciplines on the one hand, and affinities between them on the other, trying to analyse the role played by such external factors as the political situation, cultural status and personal involvement of some outstanding scholars in the development of Italian Studies and Polish Studies outside their Mother Countries
