The present essay discusses, in a critical way, the evolution of the UN Office of the Ombudsperson. The manuscript questions whether the several amendments occurred over the past years are now able to address the human rights-related issues faced by the smart sanction regimes, first and foremost the lack of sufficient procedural safeguards.
