Geografia, cartografia e storiografia alla corte di Re Roberto: libri e opera di Paolino Veneto

The paper focuses on the Latin production of the Franciscan friar and Bishop of Pozzuoli Paulinus Venetus (d. 1344), one of King Robert’s camerarii. The analysis of Paulinus’ works, as preserved in his idiographic manuscripts, permits to reconstruct the main phases of a long reflection on the best ways to express and display the complexity of history, which even tually led to realize a sort of multimedia oeuvre. Indeed, this constant experimentation of new forms involved a reassessment of the complementarity of word and image in presenting and understanding the universi decursus, particularly evident in the relationships established between geography and cartography in relation to historiography.
