Città diffusa means a hybrid transformation of the space between city and countryside; the hybridization process leads to an organism, often slowly evolving, having the attributes and the characters neither of the urban space, nor of the rural environment, whose management is clearly problematic. These spaces must reacquire their own constituent features and guarantee the implementation of an urban management project that helps to rediscover clear and implementable rules for thieri transformations. Turning these areas compliant is very onerous; it means converting an unsustainable and inefficient city model into a contemporary style urban model, characterized by an attention to energy efficiency, environmental impact, and to economic and social sustainability. It is crucial to deepen the knowledge on tipology present in different territorial contexts. Appropriate indicators give grater strenght to the measures taken to enhance sustainability of the territorial governance.
