Eighty-one orthotopic liver transplantations (OLT) and 2 cluster transplantations were performed in 82 patients between March 1988 and December 1990 in our Department. A patient required retransplantation for primary non function of the graft. Fifty-seven (69,5%) patients were men and 25 (30,5%) were women. Mean age was 44 ± 1.21 years (mean ± SEM). Benign liver diseases was the indication in 56 (68.2%) patients, while 21 (25.8%) patients were transplanted for clear cut neoplastic disease and 5 (6%) for incidental carcinoma. The overall survival rate was 57.3% (73.5% in non-neoplastic patients, 25% in neoplastic patients and 57.1% in incidental carcinomas).
