This paper presents the urban fabric of the western sector of Athens based on the excavated bath complexes and their connection to the main roads of the city. The study of the public baths and their position in the urban fabric leads to a reconstruction of the city’s lifestyle from the Roman to the Early Byzantine period. The number and size of the bath complexes and the results derived from them prove that Athens was a flourishing city throughout Late Antiquity and, despite repeated external attacks, it managed to reconstruct itself in a short period of time and to flourish anew.

Abstract
This paper presents the urban fabric of the western sector of Athens based on the excavated bath complexes and their connection to the main roads of the city. The study of the public baths and their position in the urban fabric leads to a reconstruction of the city’s lifestyle from the Roman to the Early Byzantine period. The number and size of the bath complexes and the results derived from them prove that Athens was a flourishing city throughout Late Antiquity and, despite repeated external attacks, it managed to reconstruct itself in a short period of time and to flourish anew.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
