Nowadays regulators, financial institutions and investors are interested in a proper management of Non-performing exposures (NPEs). Indeed, given the huge amount of NPEs recorded in banks’ balance sheets after the 2007-2009 crisis, the issue is considered a crucial one to rebuild a stronger banking and financial system. After a brief overview of the main principles ruling the matter, this paper aims at analysing the most common operations enabling banks to reduce the relevant NPL ratio, also in the light of the measures adopted in the pandemic context.
