Records of ancient wood stands came exposed in quarry deposits in the Po Plain of western Piedmont: standing stumps and logs of great size preserved in sediments that have covered and sheltered them. The finds appear to be scattered along a great span of time and few taxa that outlined Pliocene woody landscape had long disappeared from Europe. A number of Holocene finds look to be detached along the green belt of Turin.
