This article offers a linguistic and stylistic commentary on an epigram by Gregory of Nazianzus (AP 8.170). This poem is part of a thematically similar series of epigrams dealing with tomb profaners. A survey of lexical occurrences allows the identification of elements common to another genre of hexametric poetry: the Sibylline Oracles. It also grants greater insight into Gregory’s compositional techniques through the strong links with Homeric tradition, evident in certain references.

Abstract
This article offers a linguistic and stylistic commentary on an epigram by Gregory of Nazianzus (AP 8.170). This poem is part of a thematically similar series of epigrams dealing with tomb profaners. A survey of lexical occurrences allows the identification of elements common to another genre of hexametric poetry: the Sibylline Oracles. It also grants greater insight into Gregory’s compositional techniques through the strong links with Homeric tradition, evident in certain references.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
