Abstract

Nowadays, the proliferation of low-cost airlines promotes the revitalization of small regional or secondary airports. These infrastructures, generally constructed for military use, over the the development of the surrounding area. Since the late 1990s several secondary airports have been incorporated into the low-cost airport network, resulting in both an infrastructural and functional renewal, and in the growth of activities (not only related to air transport). The recycling of the small airports is crucial on a local scale as this generates a rapid transformation of land use and of the infrastructure network relative to land transportation: the airport therefore becomes a landmark in the territory and an important element for the local economy.
