This article discusses the widespread and traditional thesis according to which, in Plato, there is a transition from an “ontological” to a “logical” conception of truth and falsehood, the latter being definitively established in Aristotle’s thought. Relevant passages from the Platonic dialogues and Aristotle’s writings are examined, leading to the conclusion that it is impossible to contrast an “ontological” and a “logical” conception of truth and falsehood, which instead remain closely connected. Truth and falsehood are, after all, ontologically founded.

Abstract
This article discusses the widespread and traditional thesis according to which, in Plato, there is a transition from an “ontological” to a “logical” conception of truth and falsehood, the latter being definitively established in Aristotle’s thought. Relevant passages from the Platonic dialogues and Aristotle’s writings are examined, leading to the conclusion that it is impossible to contrast an “ontological” and a “logical” conception of truth and falsehood, which instead remain closely connected. Truth and falsehood are, after all, ontologically founded.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
