Objective: This study aims to understand how the use of social networks by managers of the Unified Health System occurs at the municipal, state and national levels, and its reach for the population. Methods: It is a documentary study of mixed and descriptive methods, carried out on the social networks Instagram, Facebook and Twitter of the Municipal Health Department of Criciúma, State Health Department of Santa Catarina and Ministry of Health. In quantitative analysis, the number publications, likes, followers and comments, and in qualitative analysis the content of posts, comments, responses to comments and engagement. Results: The results indicated the low reach of the population on the social networks of the investigated agencies and the prominence in the number of posts nationwide. Still, with regard to the content of the posts, the Ministry of Health highlights educational publications, while at the municipal and state level it presents more posts related to financial transfers and the purchase of new equipment. Conclusion: Thus, it was possible to identify that, despite the importance of social networks in accessing and disseminating information, there are still necessary advances to contemplate the potential and strengthening of health services from the internet.
