Nomenclatural remarks on Linnaean names of aquatic plants

The typification of the Linnaean names Alisma natans and Typha latifolia is discussed. A specimen deposited at LINN and Morison's illustration of "Typha palustris major" are designated, respectively, as lectotypes. Since the latter image cannot be unambiguously identified as T. latifolia as currently circumscribed, an epitype is selected. Alisma parnassifolia, a name variously ascribed to both Linnaeus and Bassi, is shown to have been published by Linnaeus in 1768, whereas the publication by Bassi was in 1783. This contrasts with current literature and online databases that report 1768 as the year of Bassi's publication. Alisma parnassifolia is lectotypified on a specimen at LINN with an isolectotype at BOLO. Bassi's A. parnassifolia is treated as an isonym.
