The essay deals with the theme of reconstructions, bringing to attention some examples of buildings built in the Terra di Bari and Capitanata between the 12 th and 14 th centuries. The main focus is on the interactions between two disciplines: the History of Architecture and that of Conservation, which are examined in a constant dialogue between them. The studies undertaken to date take marginal account of the reconstructions that led to what could be defined in this specific case as the ‘invention’ of the Middle Ages in Apulia.
