A political leader of the Italian Communist Party and member of the Italian Parliament, as well as a professor of hygiene and social medicine, Giovanni Berlinguer (1924-2015) was one of the most influential characters in the debate on the reform of the national health system in Italy, crowned with the approval of the law no. 833 (December 23rd, 1978). This paper aims to provide a first description of the content and the structure of the Berlinguer’s archive, which is preserved in Rome, at the Fondazione Gramsci.
