Limiti d'intervento nel restauro sulla materia vegetale e artificiale in finte rovine e piccole strutture eclettiche. Alcuni casi nei giardini storici romani

Historic gardens are compositions of artificial and vegetal constituents. Thus, there are some unresolved issues on conservation and restoration, and their boundaries. Those problems are about setting the right extent of the interventions on living and non-living materials, in order to protect their balance. As for artificial ruins and small eclectic buildings, or follies, it is fundamental to keep the harmony between the nature and the so-called natura naturata – as to say the anthropic elements – to read correctly both the system and the passage of time. The paper aims to outline the purpose of some maintenance and conservation works on imitation ruins and small architectures in Roman historic gardens. Hence, different strategies will be taken into consideration to understand how to preserve the bond between artificial and vegetal elements in those structures.
