Le diverse anime del Parco della Rimembranza di Terracina. Storia, archeologia e paesaggio

The “Parco della Rimembranza” of Terracina insists on the steep and partly rocky ground that belonged to the convent of San Francesco until its abandonment by the friars in the first decades of the 19th century. Before its arrangement as a place to celebrate the fallen of the First World War, in 1926, the area had been studied by the archaeologist and topographer Giuseppe Lugli. The Park followed the city’s destiny suffering heavy damages because of the bombings of the Second World War. Only in 1994 the local WWF section obtained the concession to take care of it in order to permit its reopening. Thanks to this voluntary work, nowadays citizens can use it, but numerous problems still remain: they could be faced by a restoration project finalized to preserve it.
