Recent archaeological investigations and restoration work coordinated by officials from the Parco Archeologico dell’Appia Antica offer new insights into the wider south-eastern sector of the Roman suburbs and, in particular, the route of the ancient Via Latina. As a part of a detailed study of a peripheral area of the Villa dei Sette Bassi, a sector known as the Dependance, a non-invasive survey has made it possible to identify and precisely map a residual segment of the Roman road from both a planimetric and altimetric point of view. The outcome of this work has allowed researchers to confirm the existence of the route and to more accurately frame its layout within the context of the surrounding monumental structures. The survey was organised as part of the collaboration agreement between the Archaeological Park of Via Appia Antica, the Department of Antiquity at the University of Rome La Sapienza, the University of Salento and the Department of Engineering at University Roma Tre.
