Ancient Time: Hans Jonas and Plato’s Timaeus. Through the analysis of the first part of a (still unpublished) course held by Jonas at the New School for Social Research in 1971 and entitled Theories of Time, this article aims to clarify the main points in his interpretation of the first philosophically crucial treatise on time in the Western tradition: Plato’s Timaeus. Besides his investigation of the role of the Demiurge, Jonas especially stresses a fundamental distinction, since «only in this duality between eternity and time, and the intelligible and the sensible, makes this whole conception of time as the moving likeness of eternity sense».

Abstract
Ancient Time: Hans Jonas and Plato’s Timaeus. Through the analysis of the first part of a (still unpublished) course held by Jonas at the New School for Social Research in 1971 and entitled Theories of Time, this article aims to clarify the main points in his interpretation of the first philosophically crucial treatise on time in the Western tradition: Plato’s Timaeus. Besides his investigation of the role of the Demiurge, Jonas especially stresses a fundamental distinction, since «only in this duality between eternity and time, and the intelligible and the sensible, makes this whole conception of time as the moving likeness of eternity sense».File | Dimensione | Formato | |
