Impact Innovate Invest (i3) project - funded under the European Commission Horizon 2020 programme - addressed the issue of the impact of research and innovation investment in the technologies for creative industries on Media Convergence. During the i3 project, researchers and innovators working in this sector were supported by i3 team in order to evaluate the innovation potential, the innovator capability, the accessibility of the technology as well as the social acceptance and the chosen business model against the some of the critical factors of a successful innovation strategy. The paper provides the analysis of the data gathered among researchers involved in European Union (EU) funded project and startups working in the media convergence. The results of this research show that EU funded projects under ICT-19 call and Media startups use different business models to run their businesses. EU projects are more B2B oriented when startups are more B2C.
