Togliatti and Gramsci were two model students, united by intellectual curiosity and a taste for classical culture. For Gramsci, the attraction of classical philology could be combined with his more strictly linguistic and glottological interests. In his unfinished experience as a student of glottology, one can trace certain theoretical approaches and areas of reflection that would characterise Gramsci’s thought more generally: two foundations of his concept of ‘hegemony’ are the attention to the historical becoming and the sociological datum.

Abstract
Togliatti and Gramsci were two model students, united by intellectual curiosity and a taste for classical culture. For Gramsci, the attraction of classical philology could be combined with his more strictly linguistic and glottological interests. In his unfinished experience as a student of glottology, one can trace certain theoretical approaches and areas of reflection that would characterise Gramsci’s thought more generally: two foundations of his concept of ‘hegemony’ are the attention to the historical becoming and the sociological datum.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
