Abstract

The research focuse on the elaboration and integration of digital models for the knowledge of cultural heritage, with particular attention to the potentials inherent in new forms of modeling in parametric, associative and generative environment. The complexity of an historical architecture requires the organization of an heterogeneous information set, registered and archived within different platforms, both analogical and digital. This determines a difficulty in managing content and container which makes both documentation and communication of architectural assets fragmentary and partially effective. The aim of the thesis is based on the assumption that the use of a universal parametric lexicon, afferent to the world of descriptive geometry and the codes it contains, can convey new processes of integrated knowledge, allowing not only the genesis of forms but also the alteration of the overall configuration of the model, according to a cascade propagation logic of modifications. Practical experimentation focused on the study of a specific architectural typology, the double Renaissance loggia. This subject is based on recurring elements and characteristics of adherence to geometric laws and aggregation rules between different components. The research therefore involved a re-reading in a parametric digital key of the rules and codes collected in the Renaissance treatise, trying to understand the design logic of the architect of the 16th century who applied compositional rules, adapting them to the complexity of one three-dimensional space strongly conditioned by pre-existences. Two particularly significant case studies were analyzed: the double loggia of Palazzo Camuccini in Cantalupo and Palazzo Cesi in Acquasparta. The research has developed an algorithmic prototype in which the use of a parametric digital code, easily managed in the BIM environment, allows obtaining a real computerized archive, an integrated database in which everything is compatible and interconnected
