Land degradation (LD) represents a threat for environment and human survival, triggered by initial conditions of environmental fragility and due to both natural and anthropogenic factors. Under evolving socio-environmental scenarios, this work proposes a D evaluation approach to quantify the role of the main LD processes in Italy: climate quality, soil erosion, salinisation, sealing, contamination and compaction. Through statistical methods and GIS tools, we derived six thematic indicators of vulnerability to each LD process, implemented a synthetic land vulnerability index (LVI) and analyzed the LD risk in Italy. Advantages of this approach compared to other methodologies were finally discussed.

Abstract
Advantages of this approach compared to other methodologies were finally discussed.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
