High surface area NiO-MgO solid solutions of various nickel content (1 to 5 atomic percent) were studied as prepared and after exposure to nitrogen dioxide by X-ray éhotoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Electron Spin Resonance (ESR). The formation and the stabilitynof Ni3+ species were investigated. The results obtained by the two techniques on the same specimens were compared, and the formation of Ni3+ in the outer layers was deduced. A quantitative assessment is also given.

Abstract
High surface area NiO-MgO solid solutions of various nickel content (1 to 5 atomic percent) were studied as prepared and after exposure to nitrogen dioxide by X-ray éhotoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Electron Spin Resonance (ESR). The formation and the stabilitynof Ni3+ species were investigated. The results obtained by the two techniques on the same specimens were compared, and the formation of Ni3+ in the outer layers was deduced. A quantitative assessment is also given.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
