The bone marrow in adults consists mostly of fat. There is a direct relationship between bone marrow fat and the occurrence of bone fractures or osteoporosis. Bone marrow fat cells, or marrow adipocytes, have also been shown to have a systemic effect on metabolism. Preventing the formation of adipocytes in the bone marrow can accelerate blood production, which could be of help to patients recovering from chemotherapy. Bone marrow adipocytes are gaining increasing attention as a therapeutic target, however much remains to be discovered in order to harness their potential in metabolism, cancer, and regenerative therapies. The Bone Marrow Adiposity Society (BMAS) was founded in 2017 (http://bma-society.org/) and aims to advance our understanding of the role of bone marrow adipose tissue in relation to bone health, cancer, systemic metabolism, and other fields. BMAS promotes the training of young scientists and therefore has envisioned the first Summer School that took place in 2021 as a virtual event.

Abstract
BMAS promotes the training of young scientists and therefore has envisioned the first Summer School that took place in 2021 as a virtual event.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
