The contribution concisely frames the figure of the architect Ignazio Guidi (1904-1978), from his training and short university career with Vincenzo Fasolo to his activity as architect of the Governorate of Rome until 1937, mainly involving projects for kindergartens, schools, buildings service and health care. His strong collaboration with Cesare Valle, already developed in the Thirties, will reach the top with the plans of Carbonia and Addis Abeba, occasions where he will again develop school building projects, a typology that Guidi faced repeatedly in the Thirties, between competitions and completed projects , receiving numerous appreciations from contemporary critics. On the basis of unpublished documents, the events of the award of the contract and the progress of the construction site of the Fratelli Garrone school are analyzed, focusing on the typological-functional and technical-constructive characteristics of the school complex. In this context, possible links and links with similar examples in Italy and abroad, at the time the subject of in-depth studies and publications by Gaetano Minnucci, a figure who influenced Guidi in some distribution and technical-constructive choices adopted in the Ostia school, are identified. in connection also with the contemporary planning of the University City of Rome. After the general appreciation of Guidi's school building, Agnoldomenico Pica and Giuseppe Pagano Pogatschnig will contribute to making his work circulate internationally. In 1936, in the Italian Architecture exhibition curated for the VI Milan Triennale, Pica included six school buildings: the schools of Libera in Trento, of Clausetti and Romano in Lecco, of Guidi in Ostia, of De Renzi in Fano, of Paniconi and Pediconi in Salonicco, of Cosenza in Naples. The Fratelli Garrone is exhibited next to the Tirrena di Libera villas, confirming the role of laboratory of the "Modern" that Ostia plays in the Italian architectural culture of the 1930s. The following year Pagano once again emphasized the value of the Roman architect's school buildings in the famous article Three years of architecture in Italy, published in Casabella, noting in his design solutions a marked "preparation to solve the real needs of modern life".
