Madonna and Child, with the Saints Geronzio, Maria Maddalena and Donors, in the Pio Sodalizio dei Piceni in Rome. Scientific analyses and restoration. The painting on canvas was detailed studied during a restoration to improve the knowledge of the modus operandi of the painter. Non-invasive and micro-invasive investigations were integrated to investigate pigments, binders and the complex underdrawing. During the restoration the part with the female group, resected shortly after its execution and promptly returned to the owner, was analyzed. As well as Barocci's autograph works, this canvas, made by one of its most gifted collaborators, seems to be characterized by the same coloristic research: in fact there is a laboriousness of the pictorial drafts, a refinement of the backgrounds and a search for effects of garments of the figures that usually distinguishes the works of Barocci; this shows the desire to normalize the artistic production of his famous atelier.

Abstract
Madonna and Child, with the Saints Geronzio, Maria Maddalena and Donors, in the Pio Sodalizio dei Piceni in Rome. Scientific analyses and restoration. The painting on canvas was detailed studied during a restoration to improve the knowledge of the modus operandi of the painter. Non-invasive and micro-invasive investigations were integrated to investigate pigments, binders and the complex underdrawing. During the restoration the part with the female group, resected shortly after its execution and promptly returned to the owner, was analyzed. As well as Barocci's autograph works, this canvas, made by one of its most gifted collaborators, seems to be characterized by the same coloristic research: in fact there is a laboriousness of the pictorial drafts, a refinement of the backgrounds and a search for effects of garments of the figures that usually distinguishes the works of Barocci; this shows the desire to normalize the artistic production of his famous atelier.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
