The paper presents a drawing currently in the State Archive of Rome, which illustrates a mosaic found in the territory of Collazzone (PG), in the first half of the nineteenth century. The pavement with geometric and figurative motifs with scenes referable to hunting activities probably decorated a room of a residence. Retracing the written documentation about the finding of the floor, preserved in the same archive but in a different collection, has made it possible to clarify the circumstances of the discovery. The floor was revealed following some road works near the Puglia River between the inhabited areas of Casalina and Ripabianca on a land owned by the Abbey of Collepepe. The road works project, signed by Giovan Battista Cerrini, also the author of the drawing, is kept in the same archive, which has allowed us to propose a precise location for the discovery. This location, between the confluence of the Puglia River and the Tiber, where there are ruins of cisterns, the so-called “Carceri”, is an area of known discoveries of antiquities, especially during the eighteenth century, some perhaps pertinent to a residential complex, maybe the same one which also included the room decorated with the mosaic.

Abstract
This location, between the confluence of the Puglia River and the Tiber, where there are ruins of cisterns, the so-called “Carceri”, is an area of known discoveries of antiquities, especially during the eighteenth century, some perhaps pertinent to a residential complex, maybe the same one which also included the room decorated with the mosaic.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
