This article examines the editio princeps of Plato’s Dialogues, printed in 1578 in Geneva, with the Greek text edited by Henri Estienne (Stephanus), and the Latin translation by Jean de Serres (Serranus). It discusses the historical, intellectual and religious context in which the edition appeared, namely that of the affirmation of the Reformation in the main Swiss cities, and it pays attention to its underlying hermeneutical intentions. Furthermore, the author formulates some hypotheses on the influence this edition exercised, from a lexical and conceptual point of view, on the philosophy of the Reformed area at the turn of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
