In this paper, the authors publish a statue with an unpublished inscription, which comes from the ancient site of Careiae, in southern Etruria. It provides the opportunity to reflect on the role of this small centre near Rome, of which we know little; on the very rare link between a collegium of dendrophori and Virtus; and on the role that the collegium of the dendrophori could have had, even outside urban contexts. The publication of this new text has also given us the chance to reconsider a similar inscribed statue base, nowadays preserved in Vienna, and up to now attributed to Rome.

Abstract
In this paper, the authors publish a statue with an unpublished inscription, which comes from the ancient site of Careiae, in southern Etruria. It provides the opportunity to reflect on the role of this small centre near Rome, of which we know little; on the very rare link between a collegium of dendrophori and Virtus; and on the role that the collegium of the dendrophori could have had, even outside urban contexts. The publication of this new text has also given us the chance to reconsider a similar inscribed statue base, nowadays preserved in Vienna, and up to now attributed to Rome.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
