The Mithraeum of the Colored Marbles offers a new picture of the vitality of Mithraism in Late Antiquity. Few new mithraea were established in the third quarter of the fourth century or later – the only other attested example comes from an inscription in Rome – and few show signs of use or repair into the fifth century. The Mithraeum of the Colored Marbles can truly transform our view of the cult, the ways that it continued to operate in recognizable forms, and its “end” in Late Antiquity.

Abstract
The Mithraeum of the Colored Marbles offers a new picture of the vitality of Mithraism in Late Antiquity. Few new mithraea were established in the third quarter of the fourth century or later – the only other attested example comes from an inscription in Rome – and few show signs of use or repair into the fifth century. The Mithraeum of the Colored Marbles can truly transform our view of the cult, the ways that it continued to operate in recognizable forms, and its “end” in Late Antiquity.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
