Editorial: changing of the guard at Transplant International

Transplant International has enjoyed the status of a respected journal in the field of organ transplantation under the 5-year leadership of co-editors-in-chief Thomas Wekerle and Rainer Oberbauer. Wholehearted thanks are due to these two formidable physician–scientists who have succeeded to maintain a high level of scientific quality and increased the impact factor of the journal that was entrusted to them. As the leaders of the new editorial board, we are taking on our new tasks with a strong sense of commitment towards the journal’s readership and the European Society of Organ Transplantation (ESOT) to which it is associated. It is also with great enthusiasm that we are developing a vision for Transplant International, building both on the work accomplished by our forerunners and on the innovative formats and ideas ESOT has demonstrated notably in its scientific meetings and educational activities in the recent past.
