In the days leading up to G7 summit in Taormina in 2017, operators from the Atomic Defence Lab of the Italian Fire and Rescue Service (CNVVF) carried out a monitoring of the radioactivity in the city of Taormina and surrounding areas. Monitoring points identifìed were those so--called "sensitive", because of the presence of Heads of State and delegations attending the event in the days that followed. In this occasion, radiological monitoring techniques together with Topography Applied to Rescue techniques were used, as they are a very useful support to Decision Making. This preventive monitoring operation had aimed to detect radiological back-ground (gamma radiation measurement, neutron detection and spectrometric analysis) and to realize a pre-cleaning of the site. The radiometric instrurnentation used is able to geo-reference measures, storing them for later analysis and, in case of detection of abnormal levels of radioactivity, allows recognizing the radionuclides involved. In order to better manage a radiological emergency, was also previously measured the background level of radioactivity in the environmental matrices related to soil and air. To do this the Atomic Defense Lab has prepared a series of samples at various points, following the guidelines of the IAEA TEC DOC 1092.

Abstract
To do this the Atomic Defense Lab has prepared a series of samples at various points, following the guidelines of the IAEA TEC DOC 1092.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
