The construction of this new welfare is the primary objective of an integrated and inter-scalar public governance strategy aimed at urban regeneration and territorial rebalancing, with a view to restore prospects of equity, quality and efficiency to the governance of the city and contemporary territories. Abstract

The new urban question urges urbanism and planning to assume a priority role in the search for a new urban welfare, prefiguring an experimental approach characterized by high levels of integration, interdisciplinarity, inter-scalarity and iterativity. The construction of this new welfare is the primary objective of an integrated and inter-scalar public governance strategy aimed at urban regeneration and territorial rebalancing, with a view to restore prospects of equity, quality and efficiency to the governance of the city and contemporary territories. A strategy not only of urban planning, referring mainly to the physical aspects of the city, but also to the social inclusion and local economic development, which, for these purposes, takes the public city as a structuring reference. The Dossier "Regeneration and government of the city", object of this and the next issue, investigates the theme of the ecological and environmental components of the public city, as a matrix and backbone of an integrated and inter-scalar public governance strategy, aimed at urban regeneration and rebalancing territorial.
