Designing within the historical juxtapositions of Rome means designing among the “emergencies”, therefore the Pontifical School of the Brothers of Our Lady of Mercy marks a significant attempt at confronting history, aimed at affirming a Roman modernity1. This building – probably an elaboration of Mario De Renzi (1897-1967) under the direction of Alberto Calza Bini (1881-1957), now part of the LUMSA University of Rome and known as the School Pontifical Pius IX – appears in fact as the fruit of the latest 20th century and the experimental outcome of the contemporary trends. Nevertheless, let us proceed systematically.
