A partially mutilated cylindrical seal was found inside the royal hypogeum of the Tomb of the Princess in 1978. The iconography, of Egyptian inspiration, due to the presence of two cynocephalics, finds comparisons not only in the Paleosirian glyptic, but more precisely in other Eblaite artifacts from the same context as the royal tombs of the Western Palace. This note proposes to interpret the composition as an indication of both the gender (female) and the (royal) status of the owner.

Abstract
A partially mutilated cylindrical seal was found inside the royal hypogeum of the Tomb of the Princess in 1978. The iconography, of Egyptian inspiration, due to the presence of two cynocephalics, finds comparisons not only in the Paleosirian glyptic, but more precisely in other Eblaite artifacts from the same context as the royal tombs of the Western Palace. This note proposes to interpret the composition as an indication of both the gender (female) and the (royal) status of the owner.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
